It is a fascinating coincidence and somewhat ironic that on the day that the FCC and Justice Department approved the Comcast/NBC Universal Merger that a tiny transaction by comparison was announced in the purchase of a large group of radio stations by Hubbard Broadcasting from Bonneville International.
In making the Comcast/NBC Universal announcement, the FCC felt obligated to assure the public by issuing a news release with a long list of stipulations insuring that Comcast will be good stewards of the NBC broadcast assets, namely the owned and operated TV stations.
Broadcasters know that stipulations will not be necessary in the Hubbard/Bonneville deal, as the Hubbard family has been an exemplary steward of the public airwaves since the
1920s.
