Gordon Hastings, president and CEO of ghhMANAGEMENT and founder and former president of the modern day Broadcasters Foundation of America (formerly the Broadcast Pioneers) today suggested naming the annual Broadcasters Foundation of America Celebrity Golf Tournament the Stu Olds Memorial.
Hastings said, “Stu was instrumental in joining me in founding the first BFOA Golf Tournament fifteen years ago at Manhattan Woods Golf Club in Nyack, New York. Two years later in 1997, he played a vital role in organizing and re-naming that event the Broadcasters Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament, which was first played at the Ardsley Country Club in Ardsley, New York in 1997. Stu played in every BFOA tournament through 2010 and twice served as co-chair at both Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Scarborough, New York and The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Connecticut.”
“Among all of his contributions to broadcasting Stu was noted for his ability to bring people together,” said Hastings. “The naming of the Stu Old Memorial would combine that great attribute with Stu’s life-long love of golf in a permanent celebration of his legacy. Naming this tournament in Stu’s honor would underline his imprimatur upon the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation of America of helping colleagues in need.
Hastings further suggests that the inaugural Stu Olds Memorial be played at Stu’s club, Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford, New York and that the inaugural tournament Co-Chairs be Stu’s wife Kim and four daughters. Stu’s daughter Morgan was an accomplished LPGA Futures of Golf Player before embracing her full-time profession as an educator. It would be fitting and appropriate for Morgan to join her mother and sisters by hitting the tournament’s first drive of the inaugural 2011 event at her Dad’s club. Stu’s long-time friends and golfing partners Don Bouloukos and Alan Dick should be invited to become tournament Co-Executive Chairs.
